America may be one of the world’s richest countries, but we come in 23rd on the World Happiness Report. But the U.S. is a really big place and everyone doesn’t experience a uniform level of happiness from coast to coast. So, where are people happiest here? A new report from WalletHub has the answers.
- Their ranking of the Happiest Cities in the U.S. is out now.
- They compared 182 of the biggest cities in the country on 29 key indicators of happiness, ranging from the depression rate to life expectancy to average leisure time spent per day.
- And what is the happiest city in the U.S. in 2025? Number one on the list is Fremont, California.
- Residents there have the highest rate of life satisfaction, the fifth-lowest depression rate and the fourth-highest average life expectancy in the country, according to the research. Fremont also has the lowest separation and divorce rate, at just 8.9%.
- California dominates the top 10, claiming the top three spots, as well as nine and 10.
- At the bottom of the list is Cleveland, Ohio, making it the least happy city overall. Detroit is next, followed by Memphis, Tennessee.
