Mother-In-Law Offers Woman $10,000 To Leave Her Son, And She Takes It

Is there a price for everything? Would you take cash to leave your significant other? One woman did, but there is a lot to her story. The anonymous girlfriend wrote about it all Reddit, explaining how she was offered $10,000 to leave her man and she took it. And the person who made the offer? It was her fiance's mom. The woman explained how she had met her boyfriend in college and they dated for a few years before he popped the question. At the time, she was aware his parents weren't too into her. She said that she is Cuban and he is from a traditional Asian family and his wealthy mom and dad didn't "accept" her. The woman added, "They made it very clear that they thought I was not worthy of him and for the years I dated him they treated me like a sub-human." She went on to note how it "never bothered" her and she figured she loved him so they could get through it, plus he never seemed to really care what they said about her either.

However, after they got engaged, things changed with her fiance. She described it in her post saying, "He became extremely controlling. He wanted to know where I was almost every moment of the day, at one point he even said after we are married he wants to schedule out my day so he knows where I am at all times." It got even worse. She stated, "Along with this, I found out he is an alcoholic who can become very belligerent when drunk. These red flags were enough for me and I've been thinking of stepping back for a while now. The real tipping point was when he told me that he feels like he has to 'settle' for me and that he can do better."

At about this time, she got a call from his mom offering her the ten grand and figured it was meant to be. She said, "We made an agreement to never tell my ex or anyone else about our 'exchange.' And so that night I went home, packed my bag and broke up with him."

The woman moved out the next week and hasn't seen her ex since. He still calls her but she ignores him. Friends say he is a wreck and still loves her. His parents also got in touch with her, to thank her and wish her luck in life.

The woman ended her post writing, "I was planning on breaking up with him anyway, that was never going to change. The money though did help. Was I wrong to take it? His family mistreated me so at the time I just saw it as a way of repaying me for that."

Commenters had her back, saying things like "You didn't lose out on the love of your life, you were going to break up with him anyway. Might as well profit a bit," and "Think of it as an 'a**hole tax.' Closest thing to an apology that you'll get from them." One person also wrote, "I don't care what anyone says, in the right circumstance, money absolutely DOES buy happiness. I wouldn't leave my partner for 10 million, so it's not like you were gonna be in it for the long haul. Because if he was it for you, no amount of money in the world would have been able to separate you two. This sounds like a win/win."

In fact, the only negative comments about the woman were that she didn't negotiate. Apparently, many feel that $10,000 was low-balling her.
